Prop firm vs forex broker: what changes?

Two different models. Understand whose capital is at risk and what you are paying for.

FXSort editorial · 02 November 2026

Start with the business model

A forex broker gives you access to trading products through an account you fund. A retail prop evaluation typically charges an assessment fee and sets conditions for qualifying for a subsequent account or reward arrangement. The agreement determines whether that environment is simulated and what you are entitled to.

Compare different questions

For a broker, investigate the contracting entity, trading costs, withdrawal arrangements and available platforms. For a prop program, read the loss calculations, evaluation targets, prohibited strategies, reward conditions and termination clauses.

Keep your comparison like for like

Compare the same account size and program type. Distinguish a marketing maximum from the starting reward share. For brokers, use the same currency pair, trade size, platform and holding period.

Read the contract before the headline

Neither a large advertised account nor an attractive spread tells the complete story. Use the FXSort directory as a research starting point, then read the terms directly.
